Determination of Ca2+ ions with a selective electrode (potentiometry)

Use of the electrode

Before use: Add the filling solution (potassium nitrate KNO3 solution supplied by the manufacturer) to the compartment. Leave the whole electrode (parts A and B) to soak in calcium chloride CaCl2 solution at 0.01 mol/L for at least 2 hours, or for 24 hours in a CaCl2 solution at 10-3 mol/L if possible.

During use: Avoid all contact with organic solvents (chlorinated solvents, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids) so as not to damage the PVC membrane.

At the end of use, for short storage, the electrode is immersed in a CaCl2 solution at 0.01 mol/L. For long storage, both parts of the electrode are separated. The filling solution is retrieved and the electrode stored dry.
