Metrology

Metrology: a requirement!

Metrology is the “science of measurement and its application”, effective in any field of science (chemistry, biochemistry, physics, biology, engineering sciences). It embraces both experimental and theoretical determinations.
Applying metrology in a laboratory is necessary to obtain reliable results. Research laboratories, as well as control and routine laboratories are concerned about metrology.

Metrology in a laboratory is crucial to ensure quality control and confidence in the results produced by the laboratory.

For example, in foodstuffs, maximum residues levels (MRLs) are required for pesticides. The results of analysis of those foodstuffs must comply with those MRLs, especially to import. In case of non-conformity, foodstuffs are rejected at border controls. That is why reliable results of analysis and proofs of their reliability are crucial for laboratories.
