Calculation of dry matter

The successive weighings give us the following information:

  • The tare mass: crucible and lid Mt
  • The masses for the tare, dry matter and water content of the product: Mws
  • The masses for the tare and dry matter: Mds

With this in mind, the % of dry matter in the sample can be determined by the relation:

%DM = (MDS-MT) x 100 / (MWS-MT)

For the quantitative analysis the solute content should always be compared to the dry matter mass of the sample.
