The micropipette

Description

A micropipette is an instrument that allows a small volume of liquid (0.01 to 10 mL depending on the micropipette) to be sampled with great precision.
There are several types of micropipettes:

  • fixed or variable volume
  • manual or automatic sampling
  • single-channel or multi-channel.
The choice of the micropipette should be made primarily on the basis of the volume of liquid to be transferred.

Uses

A micropipette is generally used to transfer a small, precise volume of liquid (e.g. sampling 100 μL of stock solution to perform a precise dilution). It is always used with a suitable tip.
