Different types of micropipettes

Micropipettes can be classified according to different criteria:

  • Withdrawal type: manual or automatic
  • Volume: fixed or variable
  • Number of channels: single-channel or multi-channel
  • Operational mechanism: air displacement or positive displacement.

The model most commonly found in laboratories is the air displacement manual micropipette. It can have a fixed or variable volume, be single-channel or multi-channel.
