Lecture/Problem session
Example 1
Lecture session
Learning objectives: to be able to describe how a conductivity meter works and list the associated good laboratory practices
Method of evaluation: written questionnaire
BEFORE |
DURING |
AFTER |
|
Main steps | I point the students to the appropriate Chimactiv ressources | I encourage the students to use Chimactiv when preparing their written responses
What I do |
During the session, I show the students the related Chimactiv video and advise them to note the important information | I remind the students to consult the page on this theme to help them with their review
What the students do |
A 1st viewing in class; comparison of notes in pairs; then a 2nd viewing to clarify/improve/complete their notes; finally the class decides collectively on a paragraph-length summary | The students consult the pages individually at their leisure. |
The benefits of Chimactiv for me as a teacher
« Having no lab session for this course, I use Chimactiv to keep contact with the experimental aspect of the subject. »
Example 2
3h Lecture session
Learning objectives: to understand the steps to analyse chemical contaminant; understand the basics of metrology
Method of evaluation: none
BEFORE |
DURING |
AFTER |
|
Main steps | I explain the relevance of Chimactiv for the present course | I point the students to the appropriate Chimactiv ressources | I encourage the students to use Chimactiv when preparing their written responses |
What I do |
In preparation for a session, either live or online, I record links to Chimactiv pages relevant to the course material in a PPT file | Links with Chimactiv materials are stored in PPT files | During the problem and lab sessions, I encourage the students to consult the resources in order to assimilate the relevant information |
What the students do |
The students look at Chimactiv on their own in preparation for the course (analysis of contaminants + metrology) | The students can consult the provided resources on their smartphones | The students consult the pages individually to improve their problem sets and better understand the techniques in question |
The benefits of Chimactiv for me as a teacher
« I noticed a greater level of involvement on the part of the students in class and an improvement in the quality of their problem sets since I began using Chimactiv »
Example 3
3h seminar
Learning objectives: to understand the general principles of analyzing chemical contaminant and to be able to identify the analytical difficulties and possible biases.
Method of evaluation: questions during discussion

What I do |
On the class website, I record links to Chimactiv pages to consult | At the end of a session, either live or online, I provide links to the pages of interest
What the students do |
The students consult the pages individually to improve their retention of the contents of the course and to prepare for the exam |
The benefits of Chimactiv for me as a teacher
« Ressources available to the students help them to assimilate the content of the course. »
