Learning objectives: to be able to perform experiments which may pose risks or to manipulate dangerous chemicals; to be able to interpret the results of the experiment

Method of evaluation: report including description and interpretation of the results

Main steps I point out the existence of Chimactiv and explain its relevance for the present lab session I point the students to the appropriate Chimactiv ressources I encourage the students to use Chimactiv when preparing their written responses
What I do
In preparation for the session, either live or online, I record links to Chimactiv pages relevant to the lab session in a PPT file I make the relevant pages available on the computers in the lab room
What the students do
The students look at Chimactiv on their own in preparation for the lab session (Safety in a chemistry lab) The students can consult Chimactiv during discussions with the teacher or other students The students consult the pages individually to improve their reports if necessary

Learning objectives: to understand the basic rules of safety in the lab (personal and collective protection) and know how to justify them

Method of evaluation: homework questions to be turned in at the beginning of the session

Main steps I point out the existence of Chimactiv and explain its relevance for the present lab session I point the students to the appropriate Chimactiv ressources I encourage the students to use Chimactiv when preparing their written responses
What I do
The course materials for the lab include instructions to visit the Chimactiv pages on personal and collective protection (links are included) At the beginning of the session, I verify their understanding while discussing as a group. If necessary, I send them back to the site during the session
What the students do
The students look at Chimactiv on their own and find the answers to the homework questions
The benefits of Chimactiv for me as a teacher

Learning objectives: to acquire basic understanding of TLC and its applications in chemical analysis; to know how to perform a TLC depending on the component or mix to analyze.

Method of evaluation: homework questions and lab report

In preparation for the session, either live or online, I present the general objectives of the lab sessions and give links to Chimactiv At the beginning of the session, I verify their understanding while discussing as a group. If necessary, I send them back to the site during the session I encourage the students to rely on other Chimactiv ressources to prepare the following sessions
What the students do
The students look at Chimactiv on their own and find the answers to the homework questions The students consult the pages individually to better understand TLC technique and improve their reports if necessary The students consult the pages individually for their next lab sessions (spectroscopy, NMR, …)
