Charge transfer interaction

These intermolecular forces arise from the interaction between electron donors, which have low ionization energy (the energy required to remove an electron) and electron acceptors, which have high electron affinity (the energy released by the molecule that captures an electron).

There are different types of donors depending on the origin of the electron:

  • π donors: electronic system π
  • n donors: free electron pair
  • σ donors: polar link σ
